Short biographical notes (300 words) Born in Milano Italy in 1970, completed medical school at the local State university in 1994 and served in the Army for 1 year in the medical services. Moved then to Varese for the 5 years long speciality school at the University of Insubria. In 1999 moved to Glasgow Scotland for a 1 year long trauma and orthopaedic fellowship. There, he completed research projects on hand and prosthetic surgery and joined the local doctors in training in hospital services. Returned to Milano in 2000 and served as hospital junior consultant for 18 months. In 2001 he was the first Italian citizen to be appointed Fellow of the European Board of Orthopaedics after extensive examinations were carried out from an international board. In 2002 he was chosen for the international 1 year research fellowship in Spinal Surgery at the University College of London and moved there to work and complete research projects with both children and adult spinal deformity patients. Finally returned to Milano after the fellowship, he has served at major spinal centres both as associate and as chief of service. He is now an executive member of the Spine Society of Europe after completing many years of teaching in European courses.
